ESOL - Entry 1

There are a large number of classes for local students who want to improve their speaking, listening, reading and writing of English. All of our classes are mixed.

Course content

You can:

• Learn basic English for everyday use

• Learn English through on-line and digital media (in some classes)

• Improve your English to help you at work or to gain employment

• Develop advanced English Language skills for study purposes

• Prepare for qualification such as the Trinity ESOL Certificate at your level.

Entry Requirements

  • Placement test for new students prior to enrolment , returning students to show evidence of past certificates or most recent qualification they’ve achieved. When you enrol, you will receive guidance as to the best class for you. You’ll have to organise your own Childcare but could be available at the college’s Nursery for a limited number of days, and it is on a first come first serve basis.
  • Time: Mon 13:00 - 15:30 Wed 09:30 - 12:00 & Thur 13:00 - 15:30

PLEASE NOTE THAT THESE CLASSES ARE MAINLY INTENDED FOR STUDENTS WHO NORMALLY LIVE IN THE UK AND SPEAK A LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH AT HOME OR ARE REFUGEES OR ARE APPLYING FOR ASYLUM.

You will be given further advice about this when you come to enrol. At this time, you will need to show us evidence of your residence status.

The fee shown is the typical cost of the qualification with basic government funding applied. In most cases the student will not pay the full course cost if they are eligible for funding support.

The government funding agencies may pay up to 50% and in some cases 100% of the tuition fee shown.

The only students to pay full cost are where the course is designated FULL COST (no government funding available for the course) or if the student is 24 or over at the start of a course which is Level 3 or above. (See 24+ Advanced Learning Loans)

The actual cost you pay will be calculated during the enrolment process.

  • If you are in receipt of an eligible means tested benefit you must bring current documentation along to one of the main colleges within 5 working days of this enrolment. Failure to do so will result in your enrolment becoming null and void – see paying for your course here
  • If you have a Criminal Conviction or have received a Reprimand or Final Warning from police, acceptance on to a course will be subject to agreement here by the College

  • If you are an overseas student (Non British/EEA), you will be asked to provide documentation of your current status in the UK. You must bring current documentation along to one of the main colleges within 5 working days of this enrolment. Failure to do so will result in your enrolment becoming null and void.
