Retail Skills Level 2 Diploma

This course gives you the opportunity to develop your skills and experience to help prepare you for work in the retail sector.

Course content

The course is unit based and you will need to complete a minimum of 8 units including health and safety, security, stock, customer service, display and teamwork.

You will develop skills and techniques learnt in the classroom in a retail work placement one day a week which is an essential part of the course. The college will help find your work experience placement for you.

On your programme you will study for Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths qualifications, if you do not already hold a minimum GCSE grade C.

Experience of life skills such as teamwork, time management and use of leisure time will also be covered.

All tutors have extensive retail experience and have the skills to support students with a range of specific learning needs. The college has a range of resources to support students with additional needs.

The course is designed to meet very specific individual needs making it ideal for students who may have learning difficulties of any kind.

Entry Requirements

  • 4 GCSEs at A*- D grades (or acceptable alternatives). Must include English Language.

Putting into practice the skills you have developed in the classroom, you will undertake practical assessments for example being observed at your work placement, dealing with stock and customers.

Where can it lead?

You can look for employment in the retail sector. Previous students have found work in Sainbury’s, WHSmith, Morrisons and Wilkinson’s. Alternatively, you could consider applying for another course at college.
