Entry Requirements
A minimum of 48 (preferably 64) UCAS points at A-Level (to include a business subject) or BTEC Extended Diploma in Business or Access Diploma in Business. Level 3 Diploma from the Institute of Leadership and Management is also accepted. 

GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above are required. 

International students should have equivalent qualifications listed in UCAS and an IELTS score of 6.0. Exceptionally, mature students will be considered on their work experience, which must be at a supervisory level. Applicants are expected to have part-time employment.
 
 

FdA Business Leadership & Management

This course is based around the two threads of management and leadership. The programme aims to develop students’ skills in both areas. The management thread provides the necessary underpinning knowledge and understanding of how businesses are set up, operate and are managed and lead. The leadership thread focuses on developing confident leaders with effective interpersonal and communication skills and problem-solving skills. By the end of the course students will have developed the skills needed to pursue careers in business, set up in business themselves or continue to top up their degree.


About the Course

The management thread provides the necessary underpinning knowledge and understanding of how businesses are set up, operate and are managed and lead. The leadership thread focuses on developing confident leaders with effective interpersonal and communication skills and problem-solving skills. This thread places a strong emphasis on team work coupled with self-reliance. By the end of the course students will have developed the skills needed to pursue careers in business, set up in business themselves or continue to top up their degree at Sheffield Hallam University (SHU).


Attendance is full-time, typically over 3 – 4 days per week. Students will spend approximately 15 hours in lectures, seminars and workshops and are expected to dedicate a similar amount of time to self-study.

Assessment

You will be assessed in a variety of ways including assignments, exams, presentations and group work. This will allow you to experience different pressures and learn to respond to varied challenges. 


Where does this Lead

Applicants who are studying for SHU-validated foundation degrees will receive an offer for their designated full time honours degree progression route at Sheffield Hallam University provided that they submit an application via UCAS by the deadline in January of the year in which they wish to study. Applicants who are studying for SHU-validated foundation degrees and who wish to progress to part-time study on their designated honours degree progression route will apply directly to the University.

The offer made by the University will be subject to:

  • Successful completion of the foundation degree programme
  • Submission of a satisfactory personal statement and reference
  • Meeting the University's literacy and numeracy requirements
  • Satisfying any additional specific course requirements for entry to the designated progression route (e.g. successful completion of associated bridging studies or any non-academic conditions).

You will be well placed to follow a career in Business Management or to run your own business. You may also choose to pursue a career in Marketing, HR, Business or Finance.
