About this Course

Many people own a digital camera, but how many people actually use them to their true capability? Our courses aim to demystify the use of the digital camera and allow you to produce quality images that you are proud to show the world.

Key Units

Throughout the 8 week programme, the course will cover:


  • Introduction to the Digital Camera and Basic Functions: Camera to Computer
  • Apertures, Shutter Speed & Depth of Field
  • Composition: How to Compose a Photograph
  • Photoshop/Lightroom Introduction: Post Producing Images and Workflow
  • Lenses
  • Fill In Flash
  • An Introduction to Portraiture and The Studio
  • Critique and Portfolio Building
  • Working to Creative Project Briefs


Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for the introductory course except for an enthusiasm for the subject.


A basic knowledge of computers is essential.

Assessment

Assessment will take place through practical activity and critique of set tasks. 

Future Opportunities

Learners who complete the introduction programme often move on to our advanced course to further there photographic experience. 


Learners who are wishing to change career or study at a higher level can apply to our Access to HE in Digital Media, this professional course focuses on the development of the learner’s photography or media skills in preparation for application to higher education study. Traditionally students apply to our own Foundation Degrees in either Media or Photography.

Equipment & Resources

Access to a digital camera with manual function is essential; this could include an advanced compact camera, bridge camera or DSLR. Students should bring their camera to each session.


Students will have access to essential resources through the college’s online virtual learning environment to support their studies.


Funding

This is a full cost course which does not attract any funding. There is no formal qualification attached.
