About this Course

This course is an expansion on the work of the uniformed public services and offers you the opportunity to develop the skills learned at Level 1 and further develop the personal qualities needed for further study or employment in the uniformed public services.

Key Units

The course is made up of a range of units. 

You will learn about areas such as:

  • Public services skills and teamwork and leadership
  • Uniformed public services fitness
  • Map reading and expedition skills
  • The value of sport and recreation in the public services
  • Uniformed public services career paths
  • Adventurous activities in the public services
  • Crime and its effects
Approximately 40% of the course is practical and 60% is classroom work. There will be regular walks in the local area to practise navigation skills and camp-craft. Taking part in a range of sports and fitness activities is a fundamental part of the course.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs grades A* - D / grade 3 and above (or acceptable alternatives), to include English Language.


The BTEC course is assessed by coursework.

  • Written assignments
  • Worksheets/workbooks
  • Role plays
  • Practical assessments
  • Observations
There are no formal exams, although you may be asked to take small tests at times to assess your understanding.

Where does this Lead

Successful completion of this course, good attendance and punctuality along with a tutor recommendation can lead to our Uniformed Public Services BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma or other Level 3 course.
