Having completed the introduction to digital photography, do you have a desire to further your knowledge? Then our advanced digital programme is perfect for you. 


The Sheffield College has developed a national reputation through its delivery of photography programmes across a broad range of courses, from beginner to degree level. Within our professional standard facility students have access to two large photography studios, equipped with Profoto lighting, Mac editing suits with the latest professional standard editing software and a large selection of Nikon cameras, lenses and accessories. The photography teaching team are working professional photographers who are able to share their knowledge of professional practice through our exciting vocational courses.


Our Advanced course is aimed at students who have either completed the introductory course or have some experience of digital photography; this course will build on the foundations of the beginners program by developing camera, software and studio techniques.


Key Units

The course will build on the experience gained in the introduction to digital photography class. Learners will further develop skills in the following areas:


  • Advanced camera function and usage
  • Advanced Studio lighting
  • Still Life
  • Photoshop and Lightroom

Future Opportunities

Students wishing to explore the possibility of changing their career are invited to apply for our Access to HE diploma in Digital Media, which  focusses on the development of the learner’s photography  skills in preparation for application to higher education study. Traditionally students apply to our own Foundation Degrees in either Media or Photography upon completion of the Access programme.

Access to a digital camera with manual function is essential; this could include an advanced compact camera, bridge camera or DSLR. Students should bring their camera to each session. Students will have access to essential resources through the college’s online virtual learning environment to support their studies.
