These courses will explore the use of traditional embroidery stitches in contemporary ways, both by hand and by machine. You will look at a variety of techniques including: wax entrapment, batik, tie dye, free machine embroidery, quilting and patchwork. You will have the opportunity to explore some modern techniques, materials and equipment that can be used in contemporary embroidery. By keeping samples and notes, you will build up a useful resource for future reference. Then you will work towards producing a finished item of your choosing, perhaps something for the home or a fashion accessory.
This is a full cost course. No funding available.
There are no formal entry requirements.
Anyone wishing to continue after completing the first, can go on to develop their skills and knowledge base with a different set of stitches and techniques in the second half of the year.
Specialist equipment will be available to use whilst in class. But you should bring any basic equipment such as scissors and needles. Any further materials you might need to supply will be explained throughout the course.
