Applied Textiles

These courses will explore the use of traditional embroidery stitches in contemporary ways, both by hand and by machine. You will look at a variety of techniques including: wax entrapment, batik, tie dye, free machine embroidery, quilting and patchwork. You will have the opportunity to explore some modern techniques, materials and equipment that can be used in contemporary embroidery. By keeping samples and notes, you will build up a useful resource for future reference. Then you will work towards producing a finished item of your choosing, perhaps something for the home or a fashion accessory.
