This course introduces you to the dynamic area of art and design.
You will learn by completing project briefs based on realistic work-based activities. There will be the opportunity to explore materials and experiment with new techniques.
To assess your skills and interests, you will sample a range of areas including drawing, painting, printmaking, 3D work, ceramics, fashion and textiles. You will also study the work of other artists and designers.
You are expected to work independently on project work away from the college for at least 6 hours a week.
On your programme you will study for Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths qualifications if you do not already hold a minimum GCSE grade C.
Your course will include tutor-led demonstrations, presentations and regular tutorials to support your studies.
Course enrichment activities can include visits to galleries and museums and working on live projects and competitions.
4 GCSEs at A*- D (or acceptable alternatives) including English Language and an art-related subject or portfolio of art work.
The work is by continual assessment but you will also be graded on each project and a pass must be achieved to continue to the next stage. At the end of the course you will undertake a final project which concludes in a final grade and your work exhibited in an end of year show.
Successful completion of this course with good attendance and punctuality and tutor recommendation can lead to one of our Art and Design BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma courses or an appropriate alternative.
