Bakery Level 1 Diploma

Designed for people who wish to work in this popular industry, the course will ensure you develop the basic skills needed and become familiar with industrial equipment. Most students would normally start at Level 1 but for some students Level 2 may be more appropriate.

About the Course

An ideal student for this course is one who is motivated with a desire to work in the bakery industry and with an interest in making and baking a wide range of cakes, breads, scones and pastries. You must be flexible and self-motivated. You will need good preparation skills and to be well organised.

In addition to learning basic bakery skills you will also obtain a Food Safety Certificate as part of your course.

The catering department has exceptional facilities with several very well equipped kitchens, a bakery and an 80 seat, licensed public restaurant, The Silver Plate.

Key Units

Through this course you will develop a practical and theoretical understanding of weighing and mixing processes involved in the production of a variety of bread and confectionery products. You will also develop further skills around confectionery finishing, packaging and selling techniques and food safety principles.

If you do not currently have A-C grades, you will also work towards improving your achievements in Maths and English.

There are opportunities to enter local and national competitions where you will be mentored by our highly skilled lecturing staff.
