Beauty Therapy Apprenticeship Level 3

This apprenticeship is suitable if you are looking for a career as a Beauty Therapist.

About the Course

As an apprentice, you will be working in a beauty salon. You will assist in the smooth running of the salon and support the beauty therapist. You will generally spend four days a week at work and one day in college. A typical day in the workplace will involve welcoming the clients, answering the phone and making appointments and general housekeeping duties to keep the salon tidy. You must be willing to learn new skills and take part in training activities to enhance your learning.

The college has contacts with some salons, although it is good if you try and find your own employer as the salons like to meet you in person.

Key Units

The day you are in college, you will do some theory based work and some practical tasks. These build on topics covered in Level 2 such as body massage, Indian head massage, aromatherapy massage, hot stone massage and tanning. You will also learn about health and safety in the workplace. Knowledge of the products you use is important, so you will learn about how to sell the products to the client as well as communicating and interacting effectively. You will have the opportunity to put your skills into practice on paying clients in the College salon.

If you need to complete Functional Skills qualifications, these will be delivered in college.

Entry Requirements

Level 2 in Beauty Therapy. 4 GCSEs at A*-D or acceptable alternatives including English Language with Maths no lower than an E. You will also need to gain a suitable employment.

Assessment

Throughout the course you will be assessed in the workplace to demonstrate the skills you are learning. The theory side of the course is assessed by online assessments in college. These are followed up by assessments on paying clients in the college salon.

Where does this Lead

The majority of apprentices continue in paid employment in a salon once they complete their qualification. You can progress onto full time level 4 clinical aesthetics course or specialize in Spa Therapy or Holistic Therapy.
