Business & Administration OCR NVQ Dip L2 Yr1

Over the next 5 years, demand to replace those expected to retire and leave the profession is currently running at 1.2 million people. If you can see yourself working in an office at all, read on. This could be the career choice for you.

About the Course

NVQ Business and Administration qualifications are offered at Sheffield City College to part-time candidates who are working in a suitable job role, which may be full or part-time, paid or voluntary work. This placement is essential in providing evidence of competence (what you know and what you do).

Level 2 is suitable for people with a significant range of work activities performed in a variety of contexts. Some of the activities they perform will be routine, some will be complex. The person is expected to take responsibility for their work role and have a degree of autonomy in that role. Suitable if you have limited access to evidence (part-time or volunteer work).

Key Units

The college offers the new, credit-based NVQ Certificate which involves building up a number of credits to achieve the full qualification.

An NVQ is the ideal qualification to aim for if you are working in an administrative role. Candidates will need to be working in a suitable admin job, either full or part-time, on a paid or voluntary basis. All candidates must have access to real work in order to gain the necessary evidence.

These qualifications recognise the skills and experience which candidates may have gained over a period of time, or are currently acquiring in their job. Level 2 is appropriate for you if you are working in an administrative role which requires you to complete a number of standard tasks, taking some responsibility for the work you do.

Most candidates aim to complete the award within an academic year. However, the time scale is flexible and candidates may finish more quickly if they have been able to spend a lot of time on their award. The fee is for the whole course, not per year, so there is no additional cost involved.

To achieve the full qualification candidates will complete a variety of mandatory and optional units, to gain a total of 45 credits. The full range of units can be viewed on www.ocr.org.uk.

Entry Requirements

Level of English commensurate with the qualification and suitable job role. Online enrolment for this qualification is subject to tutor approval at, or prior to, the first meeting. This can be done in person, by telephone or email to ensure the course is suitable.

Assessment

Certificates are awarded following assessment of the candidate’s portfolio of work. A qualified tutor will examine the evidence and make a decision which is checked by the external verifier (appointed by the examining body) and passed for certification. The achievement (pass) rates for this qualification are outstanding.

Where does this Lead

Having completed one NVQ, many people go on to complete others in associated subjects such as business and administration, customer service, team leading or management, depending on the level of responsibility and nature of the job. Also, if the level of responsibility within the current role increases, a higher level within the same qualification suite can be done.

Tell Me More

Attendance is is by individual appointment at college:

Appointments usually last approximately 1 hour, and can be arranged on days and times to suit both the candidate and the tutor. We understand that candidates may have busy work schedules so the flexible approach is designed to avoid disruption. The sessions are used to provide assistance and support to candidates who are building portfolios of evidence, and for review of evidence, planning work to be undertaken and assessments. Candidates attend to suit their work patterns - usually every 3 or 4 weeks. The tutor will also arrange to visit candidates to observe and assess them in the work place.

Group sessions are arranged subject to demand to enable candidates to network with others and spend time working on their portfolio.
