This course is ideal for you if you would like to be given an introduction to the world of business and administration. It will help you to understand how businesses work and how they affect your life and the role you play as a customer and consumer. You will enjoy this course if you like to learn by completing projects/assignments, sharing ideas and working with others.
You will also learn about the use of IT in business and how to use it when working in a business environment.
You will study the following topics:
In addition to your BTEC qualification you will study for qualifications in English and Maths and a Personal and Social Development qualification.
There is the opportunity to take a work experience placement in a real business environment. Some of your assignments will be based on this work placement.
Course enrichment activities include visits to local businesses and team building events in the Peak District.
4 GCSEs at A*-E grades (or acceptable alternatives) including English Language.
You can progress to a Level 2 Business course or an appropriate alternative. This course may also lead to employment or an apprenticeship opportunity in the business and administration sector.

You will learn from experienced, specialised and enthusiastic business teachers with a range of academic and business work backgrounds. You will have access to up-to-date IT facilities and course resources on the college intranet which can be accessed at home.

You will be expected to contribute towards the cost of trips and visits. You may be entitled to help with the cost of trips and visits and anything else you need to buy for your course from the College’s Learner Support Fund.
