Creating & Starting your own Business

Referral to The Route to Employment Team/Interview with college staff to assess candidates' suitability and commitment to the course. The assessment day will include an explanation of the course, basic skills English and maths assessment and an interview.


About the Course

You can gain full fee remission if you are in receipt of JSA or ESA (WRAG) benefits. Up to date evidence supporting this from Job Centre Plus or your Work Programme provider must be produced upon enrolment. Alternatively, if you are not employed and wish to do the course to upskill for employment you can claim full fee remission by signing a College declaration confirming your status upon enrolment. This declaration will be subject to College audit scrutiny. The College will need to check your immigration status in the UK where appropriate. If necessary applicants will need to provide evidence of immigration status.


Key Units

This course is designed to help those people who want to start their own business. This comprehensive programme covers all the key aspects required to prepare you for taking this step into self employment. In addition to the course qualification, you will also have access to a Business Advisor from the College who specialises in supporting those wishing to start their own business. This advisor will continue to support you for up to 12 months after the completion of your course. In addition the College will ensure you are linked to HMRC to ensure you fully understand the registration requirements for your business.

The course is designed to fully prepare you to run your own business and includes: 


Ideas generation, market research, competitor research, marketing plan, sales forcast, bread even analysis, fixed and variable costs, profit and loss, financial forecasts, cash flow, tax, vat and employment legislation, business legislation, selling techniques, presentation skills and creating your own business plan.
