The Sheffield College has developed a national reputation through its delivery of photography programmes across a broad range of courses, from beginner to degree level. Within our professional standard facility students have access to two large photography studios, equipped with Profoto lighting, Mac editing suits with the latest professional standard editing software and a large selection of Nikon cameras, lenses and accessories. The photography teaching team are working professional photographers who are able to share their knowledge of professional practice through our exciting vocational courses.
Our Digital Photography Courses are aimed at students who wish to get to grips with the basics of digital image making and editing. Our Introductory course will focus on building confidence in the use of a digital camera through a range of interactive sessions. Students will be taught to use their own digital SLR camera through a series of mini projects, they will be taught how to upload and edit pictures using Adobe Photoshop/Lightroom and output images to form a small creative portfolio. Our Advanced course is aimed at students who have either completed the introductory course or have some experience of digital photography; this course will build on the foundations of the beginners program by developing camera, software and studio techniques."

There are no entry requirements for the introductory course except for an enthusiasm for the subject. A basic computer knowledge is essential.
Learners who complete the introduction programme often move on to our advanced class to further there photographic experience. Learners who are wishing to change career can apply to our Access to HE in Digital Media, this professional course focusses on the development of the learner’s photography or media skills in preparation for application to higher education study. Traditionally students apply to our own Foundation Degrees in either Media or Photography.
Access to a digital camera with manual function is essential; this could include an advanced compact camera, bridge camera or DSLR. Students should bring their camera to each session. Students will have access to essential resources through the college’s online virtual learning environment to support their studies.
This is a full cost course which does not have a formal qualification attached. Assessment will take place through practical activity and critique of set tasks.
