Level2 Apprenticeship in Animal Care Dog Grooming

This apprenticeship is suitable if you are looking for a career as a dog groomer.


About the Course

As an apprentice you will be working in a dog grooming salon assisting and supporting the dog groomer. You will spend 4 days per week at work and attend college one day per week. A typical work day in the work place will involve welcoming the clients and their dogs, making appointments also preparing accommodation, carrying out health checks, bathing, drying and basic trimming of dogs under supervision.


Key Units

The day you are in college you will cover theory and practical skills based on dog grooming, health and management of accommodation for dogs and other small animals. Units will consist of working relationships with others, preparing dogs for grooming, handling and restraint, administering basic treatments to dogs and small animals, drying methods, basic grooming and health and safety practices.

4 GCSE A-D or acceptable alternatives to include English Language and Maths. You will need to gain a suitable employer.


Assessment

Throughout the course you will be assessed in the work place to demonstrate the skills you are learning and during practical dog grooming sessions in college. There are also some short written assignments based on dog grooming and health and management in dog grooming.


Where does this Lead

You may be given the opportunity to continue employment within the industry, progressing to undertake the Level 3 certificate in dog grooming.
