Entry Requirements
    The Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants or prior knowledge and experience working with dogs and grooming.
 
 

Level 3 Certificate in Introductory Dog Grooming

This course will suit you if you wish to develop your skills as a dog groomer. You will be able to prepare dogs for grooming and you will be able to style dogs to breed standards. You will carry out behaviour and health assessments on dogs of varying breeds.


About the Course

The Sheffield College is an approved examinations centre for and member of PIF (the Pet Industry Federation). This part-time course is undertaken at The Sheffield College City Campus. The Level 3 Certificate in Introductory Dog Grooming course is delivered on a weekly basis in the evening.


Key Units

Key units include:


- Carry out styling and finishing of dogs - the aim of this unit is to provide the learner with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to carry out styling and finishing for dogs using various trimming methods ensuring the methods are suitable for both the dog and the client

- Assessment and planning of dog grooming work - the aim of this unit is to provide the learner with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to assess and plan bathing, drying, grooming and styling of dogs and associated activities to meet the needs of individual dogs and clients.

- Promote and maintain the health and wellbeing of animals - the aim of this unit is to provide the learner with the knowledge, understanding and skills for promoting the health and well-being of dogs through handling and restraint and developing a general understanding of disease control and infection in a grooming environment

Health checking by a dog groomer - the aim of this unit is to be able to understand the theory principles relating to the health and wellbeing of dogs in a grooming environment and how to deal with emergency first aid situations to meet the requirements of the industry.


 You will also learn about first aid for animals, parasites and diseases. Health and safety is integral to the programme.



Entry Requirements

    The Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants or prior knowledge and experience working with dogs and grooming.


Assessment

Practical assessment and exams.


Where does this Lead

Following this you could complete the Professional Stylists Exams for Dog Groomers. The course could lead into employment within the animal care industry or alternatively you may set up your own business as a dog groomer.

Extra Costs
