This course will suit you if you wish to gain an introduction to the dog grooming for either personal or professional reasons. You will learn the techniques of basic dog grooming with a view to progressing onto a Level 3 course which would develop your knowledge and skills of dog grooming.
The Sheffield College is an approved examinations centre for and member of PIF (the Pet Industry Federation). This part time course is undertaken at The Sheffield College City campus and is delivered on weekly basis, during the evening.
The aim of this unit is to provide the learner with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to carry out styling and finishing for dogs using various trimming methods ensuring the methods are suitable for both the dog and the client
The aim of this unit is to provide the learner with the knowledge, understanding and skills required to assess and plan bathing, drying, grooming and styling of dogs and associated activities to meet the needs of individual dogs and clients
The aim of this unit it to provide the learner with the knowledge, understanding and skills for promoting the health and well-being of dogs through handling and restraint and developing a general understanding of disease control and infection in a grooming environment
The aim of this unit is to be able to understand the theory principles relating to the health and wellbeing of dogs in a grooming environment and how to deal with emergency first aid situations to meet the requirements of the industry
There are no formal entry qualifications needed to join this course.
This course could lead onto the City & Guilds Level 3 Introductory Certificate in Dog Grooming. Following this you could complete the Professional Stylists Exams for Dog Groomers.
The course could lead into employment within the animal care industry or alternatively you may set up your own business as a dog groomer.
You may like to purchase a basic grooming kit – advice will be provided at induction. You will be required to provide dogs for practical sessions.
