This course is designed to deepen your knowledge and appreciation of drama and theatre across different time periods and genres. It will also develop your understanding of the processes by which theatre is constructed, and your skills in both creating and evaluating performance. Trips to the theatre to see live performances are an integral part of the course.
At AS, you will learn to make an informed critical response to live theatre and explore a prescribed play from the perspective of an actor, director and designer. You will also work as part of a group to prepare a performance of an extract from a play, employing the theatrical ideas of a practitioner in your interpretation.
At A2, you will study one classic and one contemporary play from the perspective of an actor, director and designer. For the practical exam, you get to devise an original piece of theatre in the style of your choice.
