You will learn about the structure of the construction industry and fundamental safe working practices. You will also develop skills in preparing a site for work and consideration of environmental and suitable measures in domestic dwellings.
There are seven core units that make up this course.
The course covers electrical science and technology and you will learn about electrical installation wiring, terminations and fabrication techniques for electrical installation. This course will not make you a qualified electrician. In order to achieve this you will need to gain further qualifications and on site practical experience.
Approximately 50% of the course is theory and contextual work and 50% practical. You are expected to study functional skills in English, maths and ICT where necessary.
You are expected to work independently on project work away from the college.
4 GCSE's at Grade E or acceptable alternatives. Must include English Language and Maths.
The course is assessed by coursework and exams therefore you need to have good time management skills and be able to work to targets and deadlines.
The next step could be the Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Installation or BTEC level 2 in Electrical Engineering, however level 1 Maths is also required in order to progress. Alternatively, you could progress into employment or an Apprenticeship with The Sheffield College.
