The fashion and textiles sector employs just under 300,000 people across almost 70,000 enterprises. Apprentices are important to the future success of the fashion and textile supply chain. This is due to rapid change in the environment that fashion and textile companies compete, which is leading to a skills shortage.
As a fashion and textiles apprentice you will gain technical knowledge and real practical experience by working within a creative manufacturing company in the Sheffield region.
You will work closely with creative professionals learning on the job, working on real projects for clients and you may work across several disciplines depending on your employer.
You will develop a professional portfolio of work and will be introduced to skills that will help equip you to enhance your work placement, or progression in the sector.
You will be regularly assessed and tracked throughout your apprenticeship. During your placement you will gather evidence and build a portfolio of work. You will also regularly meet with your assessor where you will be expected to demonstrate your progress on the course and to set yourself goals and targets.
We aim to equip you for employment in the fashion and textile sector. This might be though continued employment with your apprentice employer, with one of the college network of employers, other associated companies or self-employment.
There is also the opportunity to progress to a Foundation Degree course or progression on an HE course within the Sheffield region or outside of Sheffield where you will be supported in your application.
Will this course suit me?
This is an exciting sector in which to work but it is also an area of employment that is traditionally hard to enter at this level. It will demand a high degree of independence and the ability to work on your own initiative. You will need to have a keen interest in the production of fashion products and will often have to complete work to tight deadlines. Excellent attendance and punctuality is essential.
