Hillsborough is set to be one of the leading photographic centres in the UK in the brand new, purpose built facilities, with good industry contacts both local and national and the associated benefits. We teach creative and practical photographic skills that are relevant for the individual and a rapidly changing industry. The Foundation Degree in Photography is validated by Sheffield Hallam University.
Students will be encouraged to practice in an aspect of photography which is appropriate to their abilities and to develop a style which is identifiable as their own. Students will be given the opportunity to develop their skills in image making, using the wide variety of equipment available to photographers and will gain experience in the use of digital camera formats.
The future of commercial photography undoubtedly lies in the digital environment which is now the norm in commercial and non commercial practice. For this reason we have opted to focus the course exclusively on digital image generation. The department has had a large investment in state of the art digital photographic technologies which makes this one of the best equipped courses in the country.
The Foundation Degree in Photography aims to provide the skills, knowledge and understanding of versatility and adaptability for participation in employment in the photographic sector and related creative industries. Alternatively, it will provide a progression route to advance towards other qualifications such as an honours degree.
