This flexible course, aimed at people with an interest in furniture making and design, is taught in a safe and friendly workshop environment which is well equipped with hand tools and machines. The course is taught by a woman lecturer and technician.
The aim of the course is to provide students with a range of skills to be able to make small projects whilst also understanding the opportunities available within the industry. You will be taught by Anna Childs, an experienced furniture maker and designer who runs her own furniture making business in Sheffield. A great course for anyone with an interest in woodwork as a hobby or looking to take up furniture making as a career.
New Learners will make a small pine shelf (materials provided), and then research, design and make a small table/stool or box/cupboard.Learners will also research the enterprise opportunities within the furniture business and industry.
There are no formal entry requirements for this course.
Learners can progress onto NCFE craft level 3 or City & Guilds Furniture Diploma Level 2.
Learners will need to buy some of their timber. You will need to wear sensible footwear.
