Hairdressing Level 1

This is a vocational course which is designed to introduce you to the hairdressing industry.

About the Course

Hairdressing Level 1 will introduce you to the basics of working in the hairdressing industry. You'll learn how to prepare hair for cutting and styling and some basic styling techniques, including plaiting and twisting. You'll also learn about how a hairdressing salon runs, from the health and safety procedures to working on reception.

Functional Skills lessons will also form an important part of your course. You will study Maths and English to help you improve your skills in these areas if you don't already hold a grade C at GCSE.

You will be given passwords for our online learning materials to support your learning and all assessments will be logged electronically via e portfolio systems. You will be expected to complete work experience on top of your programme hours.

Key Units

You will learn how to:

  • Present a professional image when working in hair and beauty
  • Shampoo and condition the hair
