Horticulture Basic Pruning

The Sheffield College Horticulture Department has for many years delivered high quality Horticultural courses and is a City & Guilds recognised centre.


About the Course

The basic plant pruning course is aimed at people who would like to learn the basics of this task, you do not need previous knowledge as training will be as an introduction to the activity.


Key Units

The course will focus on:

  • Deadheading 
  • Stooling Back 
  • Pruning plants to shape 
  • Preparing for winter 
  • Use of Secateurs 
  • Use of Loppers 
  • Plant Identification

You will gain an insight into how plants are pruned to enable successful development along with the requirements of industry. You will have the option of progressing onto the advanced training course to further develop your knowledge.
The course will be mainly practical backed up by a PowerPoint presentation. 
This is a full cost course. No funding available.
