ILM Level 2 Award in Leadership and Team Skills

The Institute of Leadership and Management offers a wide range of qualifications covering all aspects of leadership and management. Last year 90,000 people registered for an ILM qualification, gaining the crucial skills and knowledge to improve their performance at work. The Level 2 qualifications in Leadership and Team Skills are ideal for practicing team leaders, helping them become more effective and confident in their role. They also support new or aspiring team leaders helping them make the transition from working in a team to leading one.

About the Course

You are able to start the online course leading to the ILM Level 2 Certificate in Leadership and Team Skills at almost
any time of the academic year. The course takes approximately 12 months to complete; this can be longer or shorter
depending on your available study time. You are expected to study for at least three hours a week. Alternatively, you
may be interested in the Award which takes six months to complete.

Success in gaining ILM qualifications at the Sheffield College has been outstanding - we are able to offer selected
level ILM units online as shown below. Additional units are currently being developed; contact us for further
information. Flexibility in unit choice allows the qualification to be tailored to meet the needs of the individual and

You will be given access to high quality online course materials written by a specialist teacher. You are expected to
work through the materials, completing formative tasks. At the end of each unit, you will be expected to complete an
assignment. Subject to demand, we can arrange for individual face-to-face tutorials and/or group workshops.
You will receive six months’ trial membership of the ILM, giving access to a range of resources and services including
a specialist online portal which can be used to enhance and supplement your continuing professional development
(CPD) requirements. Another benefit to studying members is ILM’s management magazine, “Edge” which can be
accessed online or in hard copy format. There is also the opportunity to attend evening events with input from a guest
speaker and network with other members.

Key Units

We currently offer the following units online:

Group 1
Communicating with People Outside the Team (1 credit)
Developing Yourself as a Team Leader (1 credit)
Developing the Work Team (1 credit)
Workplace Communication (1 credit)

Other Group 1 units are currently being developed.

Group 2
Solving Problems and Making Decisions (2 credits)
Understanding Innovation and Change in an Organisation (2 credits)
Giving Briefings and Making Presentations (2 credits)
Understanding Leadership (2 credits)
Understanding Conflict Management in the Workplace (1 credits)

To achieve the Certificate you must study a minimum of 13 credits with a maximum of six credits taken from Group 2.
