Entry Requirements
Applicants MUST have a GCSE grade D in English Language OR Level 1 equivalent in literacy. Esol learners should have achieved Level 1 in all 4 elements – speaking, listening, reading and writing. You will be asked to produce the evidence of the appropriate qualification. The ideal candidate will be a good communicator and listener with excellent social skills, demonstrate a degree of artistic skills and flair, be highly dexterous and have a good personality and physical stamina. A substantial percentage of the course will be delivered online, therefore good computer skills are also an essential requirement.

About the Course

You will study the following core and specialist units:

* Client consultation
* Shampooing/conditioning the hair
* Plaiting and twisting techniques
* Blow drying and setting hair (including long hair work)
* Cutting womens hair
* Colouring techniques
* Perming techniques
* Retailing skills - displays and selling
* Health and Safety
* Reception awareness
* Knowledge of the hair and beauty extended industry.

Assessment

This will compromise of both Practical assessment & exams – internal online exams will be taken periodically throughout the course. Practical skills will be assessed after training and practice, competence of practical skills will be demonstrated by graded summative assessments. You will be required to work on real clients.


Future Opportunities

The Level 2 Ladies Hairdressing qualification is the first stage of our professional Hairdressing programme. This course is designed for people who wish to develop their skills in this sector.

A voluntary/paid work placement within a Hairdressing Salon is advantageous and recommended.

Successful student’s progress onto NVQ level 3 or an Advanced Apprenticeship in Hairdressing.


Extra Costs

You will need to purchase a professional uniform and kit. Order forms will be supplied on your first day.

The uniform must be worn at all times when in salon and in addition to this you must wear full black shoes.
