Key Units

There are many CILEx units from which to choose, but The Sheffield College provision includes the following CILEx units. Please note, as a part-time student you are highly recommended to study only one unit per semester (two in total per year).

  • Unit 23: Legal Research (half-unit)

Entry Requirements

Entry to the level 6 course requires successful completion of the Diploma at level 3. For those already holding a law degree, the college is offering the Graduate Fast-track Diploma which can be used instead of the LPC or BPTC.

Assessment

Examination twice a year (January & June) – 3 hours duration for each closed book examination for each unit.

Where does this Lead

The level 6 Diploma is built up of single subject achievements. Over a 2 year period, the college offers a combination of units to cover both law and practice elements. These, together with units 22 and 23, the professional skills units, make up the requisite number or units to achieve the Diploma at level 6.

Future Opportunities

Jobs can be found in legal practice, in the legal department of a private company or in local/national government and can include: litigation assistant; paralegal assistant/officer; legal administrator; junior paralegal. It is possible to progress beyond the status of legal executive to that of a solicitor or a judge.

Extra Costs

For criminal litigation, you MUST have completed the criminal law unit at Level 6.

This is a full cost course (no public funding available). The college is able to offer payment by installment if necessary. Please note: the cost of examinations and professional registration is additional to the course fees.
