Entry Requirements
Entry to the Fast Track Graduate course at The Sheffield College requires applicants to hold a Class 2 Division 2 (2:2) degree in law. You MUST have studied Contract Law or Law of Tort for the civil practice unit as well as Land/Property Law for the conveyancing unit. These subjects are usually compulsory components of most law degrees.
 
 

Legal Graduate Fastrack Diploma CILEX

The CILEx Graduate Fast-Track Diploma is for law and Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) graduates who want to qualify as lawyers without undertaking the more traditional and costlier Legal Practice Course (LPC) or Bar Professional Training Courses (BPTC) routes. There is also no requirement to secure a training contract or pupillage when taking the CILEx route qualification. Instead of qualifying as a solicitor or barrister, graduates qualify and practise as Chartered Legal Executive lawyers.

There are many CILEx units from which to choose, but Sheffield College provision includes the following CILEx units:

Unit 17: Conveyancing (Sep-Jan)
Unit 15: Civil Litigation (Jan-Jun)
Unit 22: Client Care Skills (Sep-Jun)
These units will give you the full Level 6 Diploma in Legal Practice.

Assessment

Externally assessed examinations for the practice units, based on pre-released case studies, and an internally assessed but externally moderated skills unit.


Where does this Lead

Once all the components of the course have been successfully completed, it is necessary to carry out supervised work of a legal nature for at least 20 hours per week over a period of 3 years. At that point you will be eligible to apply to become a qualified Chartered Legal Executive lawyer, and a CILEx fellow.


Future Opportunities

Jobs can be found in legal practice, in the legal department of a private company or in local/national government and can include: litigation assistant; paralegal assistant/officer; legal administrator; junior paralegal. It is possible to progress beyond the status of legal executive to that of a solicitor, judge, coroner, advocate and partner in law firms.
