This course will teach you about the basic principles of preparing surfaces and applying paints for decorative purposes.
You will need to bring your overalls for practical sessions and classroom equipment for theory sessions. All other equipment will be provided. You need to attend regularly and be on time for every lesson.
You will learn about which tools, materials and equipment are commonly used for simple wallpapering activities, be able to mix a range of adhesives and hang wallpapers in line with recognised safe working practices.
Health, safety and welfare are very important and you will develop an early understanding of how they apply to the construction industry.
Approximately 40% of the course is theory and 60% is practical.
Functional Skills lessons also form an important part of your course. They include Maths and English to help improve your skills in these areas. There will be a formal assessment when you are ready. Your progress will be reviewed regularly in tutorial sessions.
Students are expected to study independently in their own time. You will be given your own password to access our online learning materials, we have a comprehensive learning centre to aid your learning.
There are no formal entry requirements but those in education are expected to complete their current learning programme. You will be asked to complete an assessment of your Maths and English skills at interview to help decide which level of study is right for you.
Your theoretical knowledge will be assessed by an online exam and unit tests. Your practical skills will be assessed by practical tests and a practical exam.
Following success in this course you can apply to join a Level 1 Painting & decorating course. Career opportunities include working in the construction industry.
