4 GCSEs at A* - D, or acceptable alternatives - must include English. It is desirable that applicants have some recent experience of performing in front of an audience.
 
 

Performing and Production Arts Level 2

This is an exciting and mainly practical course combining practical exploration of styles and techniques in acting with related written assignments.


About the Course

You will learn about the range of professional roles which support performance (production design, publicity and marketing). The course also provides an opportunity to present a performance to the public at set times during the year.

On your programme you will study for Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths qualifications, if you do not already hold a minimum GCSE grade C.

As part of your study programme you will be expected to take part in our weekly afternoon enrichment offer. You will be able to choose from approximately 40 options which help build skills and attributes that employers and universities are seeking in their applicants

Where does this Lead

Progression can be to any Level 3 course, but most students’ progress to the Acting BTEC Extended Diploma courses.

Students may then continue to develop their skills and knowledge of drama at university or drama school. This can lead to careers in the performing arts industry (both on and off stage), but also in a wide range of other areas where artistic understanding and communication skills are important.

The course will not only help you develop your knowledge and understanding of every aspect of performance but it will help your communication skills and should give you confidence in working both on your own and with others. These are skills that you can apply whatever you decide to do after you have finished the course .You will also be able to carry out research and reflect with thought and perception on your own working practices.

The Performing Arts department is based at Hillsborough College in a new purpose-built Creative Arts Centre. You will work in a fully equipped theatre and three drama studios all fitted out to professional standards. The facilities have been specially designed and equipped to give you the best possible environment in which to learn about the industry. 

The Performing arts department is extremely well established and many of our previous students are now working successfully within the industry, either as actors and directors or in production and design. You will be taught by tutors who have strong links with performance specialists and companies both locally and nationally, and the team includes tutors who themselves have worked extensively in theatre and television as actors, directors, writers and producers.

Hillsborough college itself is college is a bright and friendly college with excellent facilities and good public transport links.
