This course is designed as an introduction to the plumbing industry giving you some practical experience of the plumbing trade.
You will need to bring your own overalls and safety boots for workshop sessions. All other safety equipment will be provided. You need to attend regularly and be on time for every lesson.
You will learn about working with copper piping and learn simple plumbing systems. It will be a chance to improve your maths and English.
The course is approximately 50% practical with activities taking place in the workshop and 50% theory with classroom based activities. Your progress will be reviewed regularly in tutorial sessions.
Functional Skills lessons form an important part of your course. They include maths, English and ICT for you to help you improve your skills in these areas. There will be a formal assessment when you are ready.
There are no formal entry requirements but those in education are expected to complete their current learning programme. You will be asked to complete an assessment of your maths and English skills at interview to help decide which level of study is right for you.
Knowledge is assessed using on line exams, and also by oral questioning during practical assessments. Practical assessments will be carried out in the workshops following training and practice in the required competencies. Students will be required with assistance to build a portfolio of their work.
