As a Sign Work apprentice you would be involved in the design, production and installation of all sorts of signs using perspex, vinyl, plastic, metal and glass.
This course provides a full Level 2 NVQ apprenticeship. Learners attend college one day per week on a day release basis. You could be making traffic signs, signs for business premises, indoor and outdoor exhibition displays, shop fronts, and designs for vehicle bodies. Your work will vary depending on the employer, but it could involve machining, joining, engraving, etching, hand decorating, spray-painting and screen-printing.
The day you are in college you will practice and develop the skills acquired in the workplace. You will be doing some workshop sessions and some theory sessions learning about how to do new tasks. There will also be some practical assessment tasks that take place at college. You will have chance to work on your portfolio and write up what you have learnt on the job.
4 GCSEs at A*-D including English Language, Maths E. You will also need to gain a suitable employer.
Practical assessment and coursework
You can progress onto the Level 3 Apprenticeship in Sign Making.
Will this course suit me?
If you've got good practical skills, a flair for design, this could be a good apprenticeship for you. You should have good attention for detail and be able to learn new skills
