At level 2, you will be able to develop the skills learnt at level 1 and learn new skills to expand your understanding of the area.
The department runs like a small business so you could be making signs and products for local businesses and clients. You will be costing an order as well as producing the final product.
You will continue to work on creating graphical images on the computer as well as developing business skills such as maintaining effective working relationships in sign making and being able to provide information about sign products to clients.
Maintaining the quality of sign products is important as you practice skills in etching, engraving, spray painting and screen printing.
Approximately 40% of the course is theory and 60% is practical. You will need to bring your own overalls for practical sessions and classroom equipment for theory sessions. All other equipment will be provided. You need to attend regularly and be on time for every lesson.
Functional Skills lessons also form an important part of your course. Maths and English will be integrated into your course to help you improve these skills whilst studying. There will be a formal assessment when you are ready. Your progress will be reviewed regularly in tutorial sessions.
You are expected to study independently in your own time, to build up your knowledge.
Level 1 Sign Making and a minimum of Entry 3 Functional Skills
The course is assessed entirely by coursework therefore you need to have good time management skills and be able to work to targets and deadlines.
Following success in this course you can apply to join a Level 3 Sign Making course or move into employment.
