At level 3 you will develop the knowledge and skills necessary for a career in the sign making industry. You will establish your health and safety knowledge within the workplace and learn about how to establish and maintain good working relationships with others. You will have the opportunity to develop skills already learnt in working with the client to ensure you deliver to their requirements.
The department runs like a small business so you could be making signs and products for local businesses and clients. You will be costing an order as well as producing the final product.
You will cover a range of skills which might include how to prevent damage during transportation and storage of sign products, preparing and producing quotations, carrying out maintenance of sign products
You will learn about planning work methods, resources and systems to meet installation project requirements, conduct site surveys and prepare signage.
Approximately 40% of the course is theory and 60% is practical. You will need to bring your own overalls for practical sessions and classroom equipment for theory sessions. All other equipment will be provided. You need to attend regularly and be on time for every lesson.
Functional Skills lessons also form an important part of your course. Maths and English will be integrated into your course to help you improve these skills whilst studying. There will be a formal assessment when you are ready. Your progress will be reviewed regularly in tutorial sessions. Students are expected to study independently in their own time, building up their knowledge.
