Entry Requirements
You need to be 18 years or above, working in a school classroom setting with children aged 5 – 18 years in a paid or voluntary capacity, have 6 months childcare experience, a minimum of 2 days or equivalent in the setting, have the head teacher’s approval to undertake the programme, have achieved GCSE or the equivalent at grade C or above in maths and English, (Certificates have to be seen).

You could qualify for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan on this course. This is a QCF work-based qualification through City & Guilds, conferring occupational competency and a licence to practice in an unsupervised capacity in a school classroom setting with children aged between 5-18 years.

Key Units

This qualification enables people to develop their skills and knowledge and prove their competence whilst working in an appropriate environment.

A level 3 role is one where you have experience, use your initiative and take a more supervisory role.

It covers a minimum of 14 units of work, including:

  • Understand Child and Young Person development
  • Understand how to safeguard the well-being of children and young people
  • Support assessment for learning
  • Schools as organisations
  • Optional units also include various special needs
