Sport (Performance and Excellence) BTEC L3 Dip SWFC & Sheffield FC Elite Womens Football Programme

This course will provide you with a unique opportunity to undertake high quality study programme whilst actively participating in an elite football development programme. This unique opportunity has been created through the launch of an exciting new city wide partnership that utilises the strengths of The Sheffield College, Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield Wednesday Football Club and Sheffield FC.


Key Units

This vocational course will develop your knowledge and skills to enable you to work within the football industry or broader sport and active leisure sector. You will be supported to improve your performance levels with progression routes leading in to Sheffield Clubs ladies first team who are the highest ranked women’s team in Sheffield.

Diploma Year 1 topics may include: 

  • Anatomy and physiology in sport 
  • Fitness testing, training and programming 
  • Practical sport 
  • Safe and effective sport coaching 
  • Sports Injuries 
  • Leadership in sport 
  • Diploma Year 2 topics may include 
  • Sports coaching 
  • Sports nutrition 
  • Sports psychology 
  • Work experience in sport 
  • Technical and tactical skills in sport 

Ext Diploma Year 1 additional topics:
  • Organising sports events
  • Sport as a business

Ext Diploma Year 2 additional topics:
  • Current issues in sport
  • Physical Education and the Care of Children and Young People

You will also complete a sport related project. Additional short courses may be available to enhance your employability with the opportunity to achieve qualifications such as National Governing Body - F. A. Level 1

On your programme you will study for Functional Skills or GCSE English and Maths qualifications, if you do not already hold a minimum GCSE grade C. You will be required to work independently outside of taught class time to complete course work assignments.



Entry Requirements

For the Diploma - 4 GCSEs at A*-C grades (or acceptable alternatives) including English Language. For the Extended Diploma 5 GCSEs at A*-C grades (or acceptable alternatives) including English Language.


Assessment

The BTEC course is continually assessed, there are no formal exams. Assessment methods include written assignments, presentations, observations of practical tasks, group or individual projects and practical tasks.


Where does this Lead

Successful completion of this course, good attendance and punctuality along with tutor recommendation can lead to an undergraduate degree at Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) or a foundation degree at The Sheffield College (with top up option in year 3 at SHU).

Qualification Title: 

  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma Sport (Performance and Excellence) or
  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma Sport (Performance and Excellence) which is accepted for entry to higher education courses and carries UCAS tariff points equivalent to 3 A levels. 

Staff and Facilities:
You will learn from highly qualified staff with a range of academic and sport specific backgrounds within sport, health, coaching, and fitness industries. Students also benefit from a broader range of local, regional and national connections available through the founding partners. Excellent sporting facilities include a fully equipped fitness suite, sports hall, gym, 3G outdoor pitches and sports science laboratories.

Will the course suit me?
You should be performing at a sufficiently high standard within you chosen sport (you may be required to trial if you are not currently performing at such a level in your chosen sport). You will need to have good time management skills in order to manage coursework and assignment deadlines.


Extra Costs

You will be expected to buy specific clothing for your course at a cost of £150.00. You will need to bring appropriate kit for indoor and outdoor activities. 

You will also be expected to contribute £50.00 towards the cost of trips and any residential visits. You may be entitled to help with the cost of clothing, kit, trips and visits and anything else you need to buy for your course from the college’s Learner Support Fund.
