Entry Requirements
Successful candidates will have a minimum of 4 GCSE grade A* to E (or acceptable alternatives) including an E in English language.
 
 

Sport & Active Leisure Level 1

The course is aimed at young people who have a keen interest in sport and fitness and would like to pursue a career in sport and active leisure. This course will suit you if you wish to gain knowledge, understanding and the skills for working in sport and leisure in a variety of different roles.


About the Course

What will I learn? 

The course covers all the different aspects for working in the sport, leisure and fitness industry and includes some of the following modules:

  • Working in sport and leisure
  • Teamwork
  • Delivering sport and leisure activities
  • Fitness training and programming
  • Safe learning in the workplace
  • Job opportunities in sport and leisure
  • How the body works
Successful applicants will need to make sure you have sports clothing and footwear appropriate for taking part in sport and fitness. You will be required to wear your very own sports uniform T-shirt for all your practical lessons and also when attending any trips to meet potential employers.


Key Units

What else will I gain? 

Throughout this practically based course you will take part in several trips and visits aimed at increasing your understanding of the range of job roles and opportunities within the sport and active leisure industry. In addition, you will complete a residential experience and community action project as part of a National Citizenship programme. This will help you to gain a range of skills and experiences that will support your career progression.

Assessment

Sport BTEC level 1 is assessed mostly by course work and practical assessments however there may also be some exams.


Where does this Lead

On successful completion of your course you can progress onto a traineeship, an apprenticeship or consider a full time Level 2 Sport course.
