The title ‘Teaching Assistant’ is a general title given to Classroom Assistants, Learning Support Assistants and Special Needs Assistants within a school setting. Teaching Assistants work with teachers in classrooms in Primary, Special and Secondary schools supporting the child’s learning. Some may have a general support role while others will have specific responsibilities for an individual child or age group.
This course is designed to help you build the knowledge and skills needed when working with children and young people in a school setting.
You will be required to attend college once per week (4.5 hours) and a relevant placement for at least one day per week. The college offers daytime and evening classes details of which will be available in the summer term.
The course covers 11 units of work including children and young people’s development, communication and professional relationships and supporting learning activities.
No formal qualifications: Interview and written task.
