Therapeutic Counselling ABC Dip L4

Sheffield College is one of the largest colleges in the country with a dynamic approach to course provision. This is equally reflected in our level 4 counselling course which is staffed by enthusiastic and experienced practitioners, both of which have chosen to combine their private practices in counselling with teaching.

About the Course

This qualification is designed for those who are seeking to become professionally qualified counsellors and to ensure counsellors develop a high level of professional and ethical competency.

This course is also designed to provide academic progression alongside a recognised career pathway. Key to the learners overall professional development will be the integration of professional aspects (e.g. theoretical knowledge, counselling skills development, self-appraisal) with a personal commitment to providing an ethical service. The course will support you on this journey thus ensuring, on successful completion, that the learner is fit to practice in terms of the skills and approach.

Entry Requirements

To apply you must have successfully completed a level 3 counselling course and/or possess a professional qualification related to health or social care (e.g nurse or social worker) and/or possess significant related experience.

Assessment

In keeping with our dynamic approach, we will use a diverse approach to our assessment methods, for example:

  • Oral / written questions and answers
  • Worksheets / workbooks
  • Recorded evidence (e.g. video or audio)
  • Photographic evidence
  • Case studies / assignments
  • Skills observation sheets
  • Interview / discussion
  • Witness statements / testimonials
  • Written records.

Extra Costs

Other factors to bear in mind when considering applying for this course are as follows:

  • It is a college requirement that you undertake personal therapy during the course (minimum 10 sessions).
  • It is essential that supervision is in place whilst on placement which, if not provided by the placement provider, will need to be funded by the learner.
  • There will be at least one residential weekend, the cost of which will need to be borne by the learner
  • Given the course entails significant personal disclosure and associated personal developmental activities, learners need to be sufficiently robust to withstand the associated challenges alongside a willingness to grow and change. This will be assessed at interview.
