As a member of the Governing Body your insights, skills, experience and ideas can widen our strategic perspective and help to shape our future development.
We’re keen to involve people from a wide range of backgrounds. In particular, we are currently looking to involve entrepreneurial people with experience of working at a strategic level. Applicants should have a strong interest in the long term success of Sheffield and the Sheffield City Region, and in strengthening The Sheffield College’s role in the City and in the Region.

Kathy was initially elected the Business Support Governor in March 2010 since when she has been twice re-elected in March 2014 and May 2016. She is a member of the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee.
Kathy’s current role is Strategy and Partnerships Officer. She has worked at The Sheffield College for over 34 years, working across many of the college sites and in a wide range of Business Support services, including: the LRC; SRIS; HR; the Business Development Unit/Business Gateway and now Planning & Performance. As the Business Support staff Governor she is able to draw on her experience to influence strategic decisions and overall direction; to monitor the College's performance and, in addition, bring to the attention of the Governing Body how business support staff feel about the College, their departments and their roles.
Jay was appointed in May 2015 and is a member of the Planning and Performance Committee. A qualified solicitor, she is the Managing Director of Bhayani HR and Employment Law. Jay is also a member of the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce; the Federation of Small Businesses; the Employers Forum; CIPD, the Law Society and the Asian Business Development Network.
Ian was appointed in December 2014 and is a member of the Finance, Employment and General Purposes Committee. A former student of the College, he is now the Managing Partner of Wosskow Brown Solicitors. The company was established in 1989 and has a number of offices in the South Yorkshire region. In addition to running the day to day activities of the business he is also Head of its Property Department. Ian is also a Director and Company Secretary of two social enterprises in Sheffield - the Parson Cross Forum, which also runs the Thomas Moore Community Centre and Southey Development Forum - an organisation which provides a Learning Centre within Southey Library. He is Chairman of the Sheffield Stars Cycling Club and the Northern Representative, Development Officer and Commissioner on the British Cycling Cycle Speedway Commission.
Paul was appointed as the Chief Executive of the College in June 2015, joining the College from Delta Rail where he held the position of Commercial Director for 6 years prior to which he was Director of Projects. During his career, he has worked in both industry (including Amey Infrastructure Services) and higher education (University of Derby). He is an ex-officio member of the Finance, Employment and General Purposes Committee, Planning and Performance Committee, Search Committee and the Remuneration Committee.
Neil was appointed in September 2009 and became Chair of the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee in April 2012. Neil is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales and currently a Senior Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, having previously worked in the private sector and for Manor and Castle Development Trust.
Edward was appointed in September 2013. He is a Director of Creative Sheffield, the City Council’s economic development function, which focuses on Enterprise, investment and the economy. Edward is also a Director of Sheffield Technology Parks and is a Governor at Chaucer School.
Professor Chris HusbandsChris was appointed in July 2016. He commenced his appointment as the Vice Chancellor of Sheffield Hallam University in January 2016 following 15 years in senior roles in a number of universities. His expertise is in education policy and practice and he has advised local and national governments both in the UK and internationally. He holds a variety of external positions in this country and China.
Chris Linacre MBEChris was appointed in March 2012 and is currently Chair of the Planning and Performance Committee. He is also a member of the Finance, Employment and General Purposes Committee and the Remuneration Committee. Chris retired as Director of Service Development, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in March 2011 after a long career in the health service. He was a Member of IPD and HISM during his career.
Michael MaloneyMichael is the elected Deputy President of the Student Union and Student Governor for 2016/17. He is currently studying for the Diploma in Childcare at the City campus.
Sally Neocosmos, OBESally was appointed in September 2009 and is Vice Chair of the Governing Body and a member of the Remuneration Committee and the Finance, Employment and General Purposes Committee, Sally is currently Interim Manager, SCN Associates Ltd and was previously University Registrar and Secretary, University of York.
Pete NortonPete was elected the Academic Staff Governor in March 2015. He is the Course Leader on the Foundation Degree in Policing Studies at the Hillsborough College campus. Pete retired from the South Yorkshire Police in April 2010 to become a full time employee of the College in September of that year after teaching for some time as agency staff. He is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Seb was appointed in September 2008 and is a Vice Chair of the Governing Body. He is also a member of the Planning and Performance Committee, Finance, Employment and General Purposes Committee and the Search Committee. He is the Yorkshire and Humberside elected representative on the Association of College’s Governors’ Council.
Seb has lived in Heeley since 1976. He retired in May 2012 as Chief Executive of the Association for Learning Technology and he currently combines voluntary work of various kinds with independent consultancy specialising in online learning. Seb previously worked for the College and its predecessor institutions in various roles for 25 years up to 2002, serving as a Governor of Granville and Castle Colleges, seeing at close hand all of the changes of the 1980s and 1990s, including the merger of the formation of the tertiary system in 1988, the merger of the tertiary colleges into a single Sheffield College in 1992, the separation of the College from the control of Sheffield City Council in 1993, and the negotiation of new teaching contracts in the early 1990s.
Amy was a student Governor during 2015/16 academic year – a position she will continue to hold in 2016/17 following her election as the Sabbatical Student Union President. She studied on the Foundation Degree in Photography at Hillsborough campus having previously studied L3 Diploma in Photography. She has been a student at the College since 2012 and during the last 4 years has been active in the College’s Students’ Union as well as attending several national events including those arranged by the NUS and Association of Colleges.
Kim was appointed to the Governing Body in November 2013 and is a member of the Audit and Risk Assurance Committee. Kim is Chief Executive of Museums Sheffield and has over 20 years’ experience of working in the cultural industries sector, including collections research and development; fundraising and project management, exhibitions’ production. She is a Director of Art Sheffield; Keeper of the Ruskin collection; Guardian of the Sheffield Assay office and a Trustee of the Public Catalogue Foundation and the J G Graves Charitable Trust. Kim has extensive connections in the city, including the business community and both universities.
John was appointed in September 2012 and is a member of the Planning & Performance Committee. He is Director, Operations and Events, MLS Contracts Ltd (Sports and Leisure Consultancy); is Chair of Sheffield Sharks Junior Basketball Club and a Director of Park Community Arena Ltd. In Summer 2012 John attended the Paralympics as an Assistant Technical Delegate for Wheelchair Rugby.
Gil VaseyGil was appointed to the Governing Body in July 2014 and currently chairs the Finance, Employment and General Purposes Committee. He is Director of Specsavers Opticians and Specsavers Healthcare; a mentor for pre-start and developing businesses and a STEM ambassador providing science, technology, engineering and mathematics support to students of all ages. He is a member of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Sheffield City Regional Retail Forum. He is a Chartered Accountant and holds qualifications in Optometry, Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Anne Wilson MBE
Anne was appointed to the Governing Body in July 2015 and is a member of the Planning and Performance Committee. She is the Managing Director of Numill Ltd, a Sheffield based engineering company specialising in the manufacture and repair of cutting tools. Anne has a postgraduate qualification in strategic management and is a certified accounting technician. Prior to her current position her background is in finance and banking.
Anne is a former mature student of the College, having studied at the former Parson Cross College. Recently she has been involved with the Sheffield College as a guest speaker at the Peter Jones Academy and as a panelist for the business pitches. She is a member of several representative bodies in the city as well as being a Freeman of the Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire. In 2014 she won Outstanding Business Woman of the Year and SME Business Woman awards.
Richard Wright – MBE
Richard was appointed in September 2011 and became Chair of the Governing Body in September 2013. He is also a member of the Finance, Employment and General Purposes Committee, Remuneration Committee and Search Committee. Richard is the Executive Director, Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and a Member of the Cutlers’ Company. He is also heavily involved in the UTC (University Technical Colleges) Sheffield City Centre, which opened in 2013 and the Olympic Legacy Park, which is due to open in September 2016.
Richard’s background is in the business sector - he worked for Sheffield Forgemasters and was Managing Director of half of the original company, ATI Allvac. He is aware that there are sectors of the economy that require growth and is keen for the College to meet those needs through teaching and up-skilling students and employees to the city.
