Norton College is one of the leading photographic centres in the UK with great industry contacts. We teach creative and pratical photographic skills that are relevant for the individual and a rapidly changing industry.

Students will be encouraged to practice in an aspect of photography which is appropriate to their abilities and to develop a style which is identifiable as their own. Students will be given the opportunity to develop their skills in image making, using the wide variety of equipment available to photographers.

Students will gain experience in the use of most digital camera formats.  The future of commercial photography undoubtedly lies in the digital environment which is now the norm in commercial practice.  For this reason we have opted to focus the course exclusively on digital image generation.

The department has recently had a large investment in state of the art digital photographic technolgies which makes this one of the best equipped courses in the country.

Assessment

The assessment of modules awarded in the first year will be based on work-related projects. In the second year students will be encouraged to become more self-reliant and contribute to the design of their programme of work building towards a portfolio in your chosen specialism.

Career Opportunities

Successful completion of the course will provides the opportunity to progress to the final year of an appropriate degree at Sheffield Hallam University.  We would however expect any student completing to be equipped with the skills necessary to have the confidence in their ability to function as a professional photographer in their own right, or be able to make a valuable contribution to any company from which they seek employment.
