A Levels, Apprenticeships or a Study Programme: What's right for me?

Thinking about your plans for September but not sure which option is right for you?

Planning your future can be stressful and it can definitely feel overwhelming at times. It can feel like there are millions of options for you to choose from, whether that's a full-time study programme, A Levels at The Sheffield Sixth Form or an Apprenticeship. Each option has different features and which is right for you depends entirely on what you're looking for. 

To try and help put your mind at ease we’ve included some information below so you can have a read and see which option best suits you!

Study Programmes

  • Job-specific technical qualifications

  • Develop your skills in facilities the same as in industry

If you’re wanting to stay in full-time education and are keen on the idea of achieving job-specific technical qualifications, our study programmes will be perfect for you!

Whilst on one of our study programmes you will learn career-specific skills in facilities that replicate the ones you’ll eventually work in.

A Levels at The Sheffield Sixth Form

Key features:

  • Full-time study
  • Study 3 or 4 courses to tailor your learning to your needs
  • Exam and coursework assessments
  • Great progression for university
  • Exclusive The Sheffield Sixth Form facilities in the city centre

Great if you’re wanting to study more than one subject. Students have the opportunity to study a varied and exciting education with us at The Sheffield Sixth Form. Located in our City Campus,we offer a range of subjects from biology to sociology, recently welcoming computer science, economics and politics, and have a brand-new A Level in PE coming soon! You will be able to study up to three or four different subjects.

Apprenticeships

Key features:

  • Employed in a full-time job
  • Typically attend college one day a week to complete your qualification
  • Opportunities to progress to university
  • Learn on the job
  • Earn a wage

If you prefer work that is more hands on and want experience out in industry rather than in the classroom, an Apprenticeship may appeal to you. Apprenticeships offer a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn and improve your job prospects. You spend one day in college and the rest of the week developing your practical skills and knowledge on the job.
