Cllr Tony Downing recently presented Jamie with his award at a ceremony held at Manor Lane Depot with managers from Repairs and Maintenance, his tutor Russ Dean and Victoria Taylor, Director of Construction at The Sheffield College.

It was a very close call between Jamie and another joinery apprentice Tom Jackson, who both work in the Voids Section. Before the presentation, held last term, Jamie and Tom had no idea they had been nominated for the award, let alone who the winner might be.

Tutor Russ Dean said: “Both of these apprentices have different qualities that are all good, and it was wonderful to have two people like this in the group.  They both have a hunger for work with a drive and passion to get on.”

He added: “It was a very difficult decision to make between the two of them, but what shone through about Jamie was the way he acted like a mentor for the other apprentices.”
