Sheffield College Students Maintain Strong A Level Pass Rate

Sheffield College students have maintained a strong A Level pass rate this year.

The A Level pass rate, for 16 to 18-year-old students, this year is 93% and 23% achieved grades A* to B. A total of 281 students sat A Level exams.

Heather Smith, Principal, The Sheffield College, said: "We transform lives through learning and enable our students to achieve much more than a qualification. They develop the skills to go on to apprenticeships, further training, employment and university level courses and I am very proud of their progress as well as their academic achievements."

She added: "The College has a diverse community. Some students progress rapidly, building on previous success. Others want a fresh start with us because they have not fulfilled their potential at other educational institutions. We inspire them to succeed regardless of their starting point when they join us. I want to congratulate them on everything they have achieved and thank our staff for their dedication and support."

The Sheffield College offers A Levels in 20 subjects including biology, chemistry, English language, English literature, film studies, geography, history, maths, media studies, physics, psychology and sociology.

Student Taisha Maneus, 18, is celebrating after securing a place at a Russell Group university. Taisha has completed A Levels in business, geography and sociology, and achieved grades A, C and C.

Taisha, who is going on to study a sociology degree at the University of Sheffield, said: “I feel very happy with my results. I am really looking forward to moving on to my next steps at such a reputable university.”

Student Abigail Carlton, 18, aspires to become a writer. Now she is getting ready for the next chapter of her life. Abigail, who will be the first person in her family to go to university, said: “I did better than I expected and I am really happy with my results.”

Abigail is going on to study a creative and professional writing degree at Leeds Trinity University in Leeds, West Yorkshire. She completed three A Levels in film studies, English language and English literature, achieving grades B, C and C, as well as a grade B in the Extended Project Qualification.

Many students at The Sheffield College also go on to university level courses with vocational diplomas equivalent to A Levels. Places are still available on full-time courses starting this September. Apply now. For more information, click here or call 0114 2602600.
