Free College Meals

The Sheffield College can support eligible students aged 16-18 with free college meals. For each day you are scheduled to attend college you'll get an allowance added to your student ID card, which you can then spend as you wish in the college’s various canteens, diners and food outlets by swiping your card at the till.

So who’s eligible for to receive free college meals?

In order to receive this type of support you must:

  • Be aged 16-18 on 31st August 2017 (students who turn 19 during their studies will remain eligible until the end of that academic year/the end of their study programme, whichever is sooner)
  • Satisfy the residency criteria set out in EFA Funding regulation guidance for 2017/18
  • Be in receipt of/parents in receipt of some form of benefit e.g. Income Support; Job-Seekers Allowance; Child Tax Credit (provided they are not entitled to Working Tax Credit) and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190, as assessed by HMRC

Students aged 19-24 who are have in place an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHC Plan) are also entitled to a Free College Meal while attending their provision (if they meet the eligibility criteria).

Please note that the following groups of students are not eligible for Free College Meals:

  • Students aged between 14 and 16 (these are covered by Free School Meal provision)
  • Students aged 19 or over on 31 August 2017 (unless they have an EHC Plan)
  • Apprentices – including those with an EHC Plan
