Success Story

Chloe Leamen

Apprentice @ Bouquet Florist

Chloe initially studied on the evening Floristry course and, whilst working at a florist at the weekend, was approached by a member of staff from the Sheffield City Council informing her there was a skills gap in the industry, pointing her in the direction of Level 2 Floristry, work-based learning Apprenticeship course at The Sheffield College.

““The Sheffield College has helped me decide what I want to do with my future. The tutors are great; they’ve given me so much help, including boosting my self-confidence. I have flourished!””

Chloe’s employer, Bouquet Florist - a traditional style florist, encouraged Chloe to take up the Apprenticeship and with that she was placed on a 12 month course. Normally the Level 2 course takes 18 months to complete, but Chloe was determined to complete the work within a year.

During her time on the Apprenticeship, Chloe gained and developed her skills in customer service, communications skills and working relationships as well as the practical floristry skills gained at her placement and time at The Sheffield College. Chloe also produced a floral arrangement for the Queen’s 2014 Maundy Monday visit to Sheffield, where she met the Queen and Price Philip.

Chloe said: “The work-based Apprenticeships are so much better; practical, theory and a wage but every second you have get the coursework done. Time is precious when you’re working and studying.
