Apprentice Advantage is a short, intensive course designed to prepare students for starting a real Apprenticeship; equipping you with the skills and knowledge that you will need to successfully apply for and complete an Apprenticeship.

What will you learn on the course?

The Apprentice Advantage course covers a number of topics that will put you in the best possible position to apply for an Apprenticeship.

During the course you will cover:

  • Tailored CVs, personal statements and cover letters when applying for an apprenticeship
  • Polished interview techniques and personal presentation
  • Understanding employers demands and expectations
  • Understanding the nature of the industry you are applying for and confidently applying it in interview
  • An understanding of the workplace and how to adapt
  • Expressing your passion, interest and commitment in the course as well as the job role
  • Obtaining strong references

Students will complete work booklets focusing on customer service, career planning and preparing for work, upon completion of which they will receive a CERTA Level 2 Award in Progression.

How long does it take to complete?

The course will take between 4 and 12 weeks to complete depending on your level of preparedness upon enrolment.

Where can I study this course?

The Apprentice Advantage program is offered at both City and Hillsborough campuses, both of which are easily accessible and well served by public transport.

When does the course start?

Apprentice Advantage is offered on a rolling start date, meaning that you can start the course at almost any time. Enrolments are staggered (every two weeks) at City and Hillsborough campuses, so if you just miss the enrolment date for one, you won't have to wait more than a couple of weeks to get started!

What happens when you complete the course?

Once you have successfully completed your Apprentice Advantage course you will work with Job Connect, who will match you with the type of Apprenticeship you're looking for, at the right level.

Students who successfully complete four weeks of the programme will be guaranteed an interview with Job Connect as the first stage to securing a real Apprenticeship.

Alternatively, you may decide to enrol on a full-time course here at The Sheffield College or pursue other available options such as full-time employment.
