For the first time, Forge Bakehouse, an award winning bakery and café in Sheffield is looking for an Apprentice Chef. You will learn from our skilled chefs how to make real food, from scratch, with quality ingredients. Everything sold in the bakery and café is made on site. In the kitchen this means all sauces, condiments, pickles and ferments are created as well as cooking full meals. We are looking for someone with a passion for food and a drive to forge a career in the food industry. Learning includes knife skills, time management, oven and range cooking, sauces, chutneys and jams, meat and fish cooking and vegetable preparation. We are inspired by cuisine from around the world and have an international team in the kitchen.
Minimum of 5 GCSE or numbered equivalent A-D grades including English and Maths
Our kitchen serves both our ground floor bakery café and first floor dining space, up to 60 covers, as well as producing jarred and fresh products for sale on the shop counter. It’s a busy space. Our chutneys, jams and condiments are made from scratch by our chefs. We take raw ingredients and turn them into delicious meals. We are looking for someone with a desire to continue learning every day, the ability to share their knowledge, ideas and creativity and to be self-motivated to improve.
This is a predominantly daytime role, with occasional evening events and seasonal evening menus.

Regular shifts start between 8-9am each day, we are open 7 days a week so working days can include part and full weekends.
Our kitchen is situated on the second floor of our building so expect to be on your feet all day and making trips up and down stairs regularly, it keeps us all fit!
34 hours per week, shifts may differ on days but will regularly include a weekend shift.

We hope to find an apprentice who would like a career as a chef within Forge. A permanent junior position would be available at the end of the apprenticeship, with the opportunity to continue learning and progressing to a senior position should one become available in the future. We value our staff and invest lots of time and effort into training them in the hope they will commit to working to develop themselves and the business in the coming years.
Apprenticeship standard in Hospitality Team Member Level 2 with End Point Assessment
The National Minimum Wage for Apprentices is £3.90 from 1st April 2019. This is the legal minimum pay per hour applying to 16-18 year old apprentices and those aged 19 and over in the first year of their apprenticeship. For apprentices 19 or over who have completed their first year and are continuing their apprenticeship, the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies
A pay review every 6 months will monitor how closely the apprentice is working to our standard junior baker and pastry chef job descriptions and pay will increase in line with the level of skill demonstrated and number of responsibilities that have successfully been undertaken.
