About this Course

The Sheffield College’s Foundation Degree in Education Learning and Support, validated by Sheffield Hallam University, is delivered at our Hillsborough Campus and offers excellent progression and career opportunities within the childcare and education industry.

Key Units

This foundation degree will help you gain the knowledge and skills that you need to support children and young people to reach their full learning potential. We will help you to develop your knowledge of theory, research and policies in education, before gaining experience in delivery by applying your learning to your own professional practice.

If you are interested in pursing a career as an early years, primary or secondary school teacher, in additional learning support, or working with children and families, this degree will help provide the qualifications and knowledge you need to be successful.

Key units that you will study include:

Year One
  • Children's Development
  • Developing Local Community Partnership
  • Health And Well-being
  • Professional Roles In Educational Settings
  • Teaching and Learning
  • The Contemporary Curriculum
Year Two
  • Educational Inclusion
  • Enabling Environments
  • Partnership, Collaboration and Team Working
  • Safeguarding Children and Young People
  • Social Inclusion In Educational Contexts
  • The Reflective Practitioner

As this foundation degree places practical experiences at the heart of the qualification, we deliver the qualification over two consecutive days during the week to ensure you have at least two days a week available for you to gain those experiences.

We deliver our sessions face-to-face, wherever possible, allowing us to provide you with effective and interactive studies in our exclusive facilities. However, we are also experienced in providing a blended learning experience
should this be needed.

Our foundation degree generally has small groups of students which allows for a supportive and personalised learning environment, delivered by our experienced, skilful and student-focused team of practitioners.

Each week, we make time for dedicated study support and tutorial sessions, to support development of your academic and practice skills. The tutorial sessions allow time for you to raise issues and ask any questions about your modules.
