About this Course

During this two-year qualification, you'll study key units including mathematics, materials and their properties, and business, commercial and financial awareness. This course is suitable if you are interested in a career in fabrication and welding.

Key Units

You will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector, including:

working within the Engineering and Manufacturing Sectors
how materials, conditions and context influence design processes and products
essential mathematics for engineering and manufacturing
mathematics, including standard matrices and determinants and standard trigonometry
materials and their properties
material processing techniques and their effects on materials and material quality
the condition of materials, how these are managed, and materials testing methods and techniques
business, commercial and financial awareness
basic commercial principles including commercial priorities and markets, customers/clients/partners and resource allocation

In addition to the core content, you will complete specific content in fabrication and welding.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at grade 4 or above plus English Language and Maths at grade 5 or above.

Assessment

You will be assessed through written and practical examinations, employer projects, group work, presentations and analysis.
